A man whose face was bandaged with gauze and medical tape robbed an Oxnard Bank of America branch Saturday. It was the 26th bank heist in Ventura County this year.

FBI officials believe the man, described as dark skinned, is responsible for the robbery of a Glendale Federal Bank in Ventura earlier this month.

The man entered the Bank of America branch at 2475 Saviers Road about 2 p.m. and presented a teller with a note asking for large bills. The note also said he had a gun.

Although no weapon was seen, the teller noticed a bulge in the man’s waistband, FBI Agent Gary Auer said.

The man left with an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot east across Channel Islands Boulevard into the Island Shopping Center, Oxnard police officials said.

Auer described the man as Latino, in his late 20s, thinly built, with waist-length, wavy, black hair and acne-scarred skin. He was wearing dark glasses, a white tank top and black jeans. His bandage covered the right side of his face and one witness noticed a tattoo of the letter “r” on his right hand, Auer said.
