3-Year-Old Drowns in a Woodbridge Lake

A 3-year-old girl drowned in a Woodbridge lake Saturday afternoon after she wandered away from a family gathering, authorities said.

The girl, Irene Lee of Irvine, was discovered at 3:15 p.m. by her family and others searching in the water at the South Lake Beach Club, a part of South Lake in Woodbridge, said Sgt. Steve Frew of the Irvine Police Department.

Frew said the girl was with her father, identified as Chris Lee, and other family members at the private beach club, a roped-off recreational swimming area maintained by the local homeowners association.

A short time after the family noticed she was missing, she was found in the water, Deputy Coroner Cullen Ellingbergh said. She was taken to Irvine Medical Center for emergency treatment but could not be revived, Ellingbergh said.
