Valedictorians: One overcame cancer, and now wants to be a doctor. Another is scared, excited and relieved, all at the same time. College beckons. Ranking highest in academic achievement, they are the valedictorians of the Class of 1996. (B2)

Cancer Watch: Breast cancer kills one out every four women it strikes, yet it is treatable if detected early. That message will appear on 100 million breast cancer stamps that were issued for the first time Saturday in Van Nuys and in post offices across the country. While the most common form of cancer in women, nearly two million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.

The Great Outdoors: Seven years in the making, Wilson Canyon Park in the northeast San Fernando Valley was dedicated Saturday. The 246-acre park is home to a variety of wildlife and oak woodlands and an elder-lined stream. It provides a link in the 100-mile Rim of the Valley Trail.

Unretainable: The Valley is losing smooth-voiced Natalie Cole, who is moving to the Westside (K1). The singer, finishing up a new album, has sold her Tarzana home for just under $1 million. . . . In recent years, Cole, 46, was best-known for rerecording the song, “Unforgettable,” mixing in outtakes from the man who first made it famous, her late father, Nat King Cole.
