Vicente Tellez Salinas; World War II Veteran

Vicente Tellez Salinas, a World War II veteran and Oxnard resident, died Thursday at the age of 77, following a lengthy illness.
Salinas was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Socorro, Texas. As a young man, he joined the Army and fought in campaigns throughout Europe, in such places as Normandy and the Rhineland. Salinas left the Army in 1945 and, soon after, moved to Ventura County.
Salinas, who briefly taught elementary school in Texas, worked for several years in an Oxnard sugar factory. More recently, he worked as a garbage collector for Oxnard’s Refuse Services Department.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Delfina Tellez; daughters Rosalinda T. Vasquez, Margie Madueno, Mary Riggs, Vera Tellez and Gloria Candelara and sons Art R. Tellez, Ruben Tellez and Vincent Tellez, Jr., all of Oxnard. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at James A. Reardon Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. Funeral services will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Disciple Fellowship Church in Ventura.
