School District OKs $1.7 Million for Consultants in Reform Plan

Share

The Los Angeles Unified School District will spend $1.7 million in the upcoming year for consultants to help reform the special education system as required to settle a class-action lawsuit.

The total includes $800 a day for the two lead consultants, who previously spent more than a year unearthing and reporting the district’s shortcomings in special education. It also includes $800 a day for the wife of one of those consultants, who works with him.

In response to concerns raised by school board members and union leaders, the district pared back plans to rent office space and purchase furniture and office equipment for the consultants. Instead, they will be given space at district headquarters and the district will loan equipment.
