From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Rich people are prospering and working-class and poor Americans are losing income or stagnating to a greater degree than at any time since World War II, it was reported. In the first two years of the Clinton administration, 1993 and 1994, the share of national income earned by the top 5% of households also grew at a faster rate than during the eight years of the Reagan administration, the New York Times said. The increasing gap between rich and poor was discovered by the Census Bureau through new methods of calculating census data, but it was not immediately clear how much of the increase might be attributed to the new methods, the Times said.
