Obituaries : Kathleen W. Shore; Longtime Philanthropist

Kathleen W. Shore of Ventura, a 64-year city resident and longtime philanthropist, has died at the age of 97.

Shore was born Oct. 12, 1898, in Mt. Zion, Iowa, and spent her childhood on her family’s sheep, cattle and feed farm north of Keosauqua.

She was educated in Fairfield and worked for several years at Parsons College. Later she moved to Chicago and then to Ventura in 1932.

Kathleen married Dr. Frederick A. Shore in 1932, and both were active in Ventura County life until poor health limited their activities.

Shore was a longtime member of Las Patronas of the Ventura County Assistance League and a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

Together, the Shores were life members of the Ventura County Museum of History and Art and charter members of the Ventura County Symphony and the Ventura Concert Series Assn.

They supported many other cultural and philanthropic activities in Ventura County. Shore spent her life lending supporting to her husband in his medical profession, and together they enjoyed travel and citrus farming.

Shore was preceded in death by her husband in 1989.

She is survived by her son, F. Michael Shore of Santa Paula, as well as four grandchildren, Mark K. Shore of Oxnard, Benjamin K. Shore of Santa Paula, Kathleen A. Shore of Mesa, Ariz., and Peter W. Shore of Salinas.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Community Presbyterian Church, Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ventura County Museum of History and Art, Ventura, or to Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura.
