ORANGE — A 6-year-old Whittier girl died Sunday at a hospital where she was taken after having been found floating unconscious in a lake in Irvine’s Woodbridge area.
Brianna Passafiume died at 10:15 a.m. at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, hospital spokesman Orman Day said. The girl had been on life support since being pulled from the water of North Lake in Woodbridge by bystanders on Saturday.
She had been picnicking at North Lake Beach Club with her parents and apparently slipped under the water undetected by about 100 other people at the lake at the time, authorities said.
The preceding weekend, a 3-year-old girl drowned in the community’s South Lake after she wandered away from a family gathering.
