General Scanning to Buy View Engineering

General Scanning Inc. has agreed to buy View Engineering of Simi Valley for $34.4 million in stock.

View Engineering makes laser systems for inspecting the manufacturing of semiconductors and electronics. Revenue for the company was not disclosed.

General Scanning of Watertown, Mass., makes laser systems for such industries as semiconductors, electronics and aircraft. It will issue 1.6 million shares for the purchase, which is expected to close in the third quarter.

In mid-April, the company first said it was considering an offer for View Engineering for the 1.6 million shares. At that time the offer would have been valued at $23.6 million, but since then General Scanning’s stock value has risen 59%.

General Scanning held an initial public offering of 2.9 million shares priced at $12 in September.
