Two county road improvement projects costing about $226,000--one in Topanga and another in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area near Westlake Village--are set to begin in August, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said this week.

In Topanga, two miles of road will be resurfaced, including portions of Old Topanga Canyon, Cuesta Cala and Greenleaf Canyon roads; Oak, Sycamore, Valley and Topanga Skyline drives, and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

The work will take about 15 days in August.

The project, costing about $132,000, may involve closing some of the affected streets to through traffic during construction, Yaroslavsky said. Local access will be maintained at all times.

The $94,000 Santa Monica Mountains road project will occur on Lobo Canyon Road.

The work, which will take about 35 days between August and October, is intended to reduce chronic flooding.

The project will involve constructing water inlet and outlet structures near the 0.4 mile marker on the mountain road. During construction, traffic flow on Lobo Canyon may be reduced to one lane for both directions.
