School District to Add 10 More

Anticipating at least 300 additional students this fall, Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District officials plan to hire 10 more teachers and have budgeted money to cover those salaries.

Enrollment in kindergarten through 12th grade is projected at more than 23,600 students for the 1996-97 school year.

Because the California Legislature is still debating educational spending for the coming year, the school district’s spending plan will be reviewed later.

“We have not reflected in our budget a lot of the guessing as to what Sacramento might approve,” said Patricia Godfrey, director of business services for Placentia-Yorba Linda.

“After the Legislature deems how much money it’s going to approve for schools, we’ll budget that accordingly,” she said.

Placentia-Yorba Linda’s general fund revenue is projected to be $106.2 million for 1996-97, and expenses are pegged at $102.5 million.

The school district has announced some personnel changes for the fall. Former Woodsboro Elementary Principal Dale Downey will now lead Golden Elementary, John McClanahan will move from Golden to Ruby Drive Elementary, and Pauline Schara will switch from Ruby Drive to Linda Vista Elementary.

District officials said they still have two principal positions to fill, one at the high school level and the other for elementary school.
