Legislation to reinstate part of the three-strikes sentencing law that was struck down by the state Supreme Court three weeks ago zipped through the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Wednesday on an 11-4 vote. It is now headed to the Assembly for a floor vote as early as next week.

Senate GOP Leader Rob Hurtt of Garden Grove won endorsements for his legislation from state Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren and the California District Attorneys Assn. after he accepted amendments each offered.

The bill has endorsements from 52 lawmakers, but only one Senate Democrat, suggesting the measure is headed for a fight in the Democrat-controlled upper house.
