Lassiter and Mutiny Too Tough for Crew, 4-1

Roy Lassiter had two goals and an assist in the second half Thursday night at Tampa, Fla., to lead Tampa Bay to a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Crew, ending the Mutiny’s three-game losing streak.

Lassiter set up Steve Ralston with a goal in the 56th minute that broke a 1-1 tie. He added goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes before the crowd of 18,761.

Dallas 2, D.C. 1--The Burn outscored the United, 3-1, in a shootout at Dallas before a crowd of 18,177.

Richard Farrer, Chad Ashton and Hugo Sanchez converted in the five-man shootout for Dallas, while goaltender Mark Dodd made two saves and gave up only a goal by Jeff Agoos.

Jason Kreis’ goal from 22 yards out in the 33rd minute gave Dallas a 1-0 lead. The United tied the score in the 61st minute on a goal by Rual Diaz Arce.

The United appeared to have taken a lead with five minutes left in regulation, only to have an apparent goal by John Harkes called back for an offside violation.

Colorado 2, New York-New Jersey 1--Steve Trittschuh’s five-yard header was the winning goal at Denver before a crowd of 20,117 as the Rapids ended the MetroStars’ winning streak at three games.

Scott Cannon opened the decisive play in the 83rd minute with a crossing pass to Shaun Bartlett near the endline and played it back to Trittschuh for the winning goal.

The Rapids’ other goal came in the 69th minute when MetroStars defender Nicola Caricola knocked the ball into his own goal while trying to clear Jean Harbor’s shot.

Tab Ramos earlier gave the MetroStars a short-lived 1-0 lead in the 56th minute on his third goal in as many games.
