A Rude Awakening

Share

Talk about a rude awakening! Sometime ago we were firmly ensconced in the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage and happened upon a notice that there would be a $4 per night “service charge.” We were there for three nights, and that extra $12 would have bought us a breakfast, lunch or gasoline to get us back home.

On page 14 of your June 23 issue is an advertisement for the La Quinta Resort. In large print they advertise their rates “starting at $99.” If one happens to have 20/20 vision they will note in very small type below “plus $4.75 per adult nightly service charge.” Now one has to wonder what “service” the hotel performs for $4.75 per adult. Then add in your room tax, and you find you are not really paying $99 per night but rather a great deal more.

The hotels are nickel-and-diming their guests.
