Hughes Aircraft Seeks to Stop Missile Project: The unit of Los Angeles-based Hughes Electronics Corp. sought a temporary restraining order late Tuesday to stop work on the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile program by Lockheed Martin Corp. and McDonnell Douglas Corp. The Air Force on June 17 chose the pair as finalists to develop the multibillion-dollar missile program. Hughes formally protested the selection June 27, but said it also sought the injunction in federal court in Alexandria, Va., because its rivals are gaining an “added advantage” by working on the project in the meantime. A Lockheed Martin spokeswoman called the dispute “an Air Force issue.” McDonnell Douglas could not immediately be reached for comment.
