City Councilman Robert L. Richardson was admitted Tuesday afternoon to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after suffering chest pains and shortness of breath while visiting the city’s police station, according to a hospital spokeswoman and police sources.

Hospital officials refused Tuesday evening to release any information about the condition of Richardson, 35, but police sources said the six-year council member complained of chest pains shortly after 2:30 p.m. and was taken to the hospital.

Western Medical Center spokeswoman Cathy Cunningham said Tuesday, “Robertson is in the hospital and he is being evaluated and that’s all the information they will have tonight.”

Richardson, also an aide to Orange County Supervisor Roger R. Stanton, was “doing just fine” Monday evening, according to Barbara Brown, an executive assistant in Stanton’s office.
