Gose Joins Panel on State Hospital

Camarillo City Councilman Ken Gose has become the 20th member of the state task force convened to study potential uses for the Camarillo State Hospital property.

Mayor David M. Smith nominated Gose after state officials agreed that the city should be represented on the panel.

“I’ll be glad to serve,” Gose said. “I would hope to bring an objectiveness more than anything else, listen to other people’s viewpoints and try to come to some consensus.”

The task force will have its initial meeting at 1 p.m. Friday at the hospital. The panel includes local elected officials and community leaders.

Gov. Pete Wilson convened the task force this year after announcing plans to close the 60-year-old hospital due to a declining patient population.

Smith said he wrote state officials expressing concern that the city of Camarillo was not represented on the committee and received approval Wednesday to nominate a City Council member to the group.
