CSUN Will Combine Its 5 Telephone Prefixes Into 1
Moving to streamline its campus communications network, Cal State Northridge will convert its telephone numbers to a single prefix beginning today, the university has announced.
The changeover process will begin at 5 p.m. and should be completed by 8 a.m. Monday. During that time, CSUN’s five existing telephone prefixes--885, 700, 701, 717 and 407--will change to the new prefix 677.
Despite the new prefix, the last four digits of nearly all campus phone numbers will remain the same. During the conversion, there may be interruptions in telephone service for as long as 15 minutes and some conversations may be cut off, according to a telecommunications analyst working with CSUN.
Additionally, there will be no access to university-provided Internet accounts from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday while modem phone numbers are changed.
For the next nine months, callers dialing old prefixes should hear a recording instructing them to call using the 677 prefix.
