*** Ruth Brown’s “Rockin’ in Rhythm: The Best of Ruth Brown,” Atlantic. Brown, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is called the woman who built Atlantic Records because she was the label’s first consistent hit-maker, thanks to such recordings as “Teardrops in My Eyes,” which was No. 1 on the R&B; charts for 11 weeks in 1950. Though Brown didn’t later connect with the young rock market as strongly as label-mate LaVern Baker, she had a strong, distinctive voice, and her versions of such songs as Rudolph Toombs’ “5-10-15” and Jesse Stone’s “As Long as I’m Moving” remain impressive works. Among her other hits in this 23-song package: “(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean” and “Oh What a Dream.” Brown, who won a Tony in 1989 for her role in “Black and Blue,” will be at the Cinegrill in Hollywood from Wednesday to next Saturday and July 24-28.
