John Clark’s two arguments--that Hollywood “seldom” makes “political” movies anymore, and that most of those that get made are “skewed toward the right”--are nothing short of bizarre (“Where Have All the Issues Gone?,” July 7).
Any inhabitant of this planet can name a dozen recent major movies of the last few years with plots involving politicians and politics, including “Independence Day,” “The Birdcage,” “Forrest Gump,” “An American President,” “Dave,” “Rising Sun,” “Bob Roberts,” “Driving Miss Daisy” and “Mississippi Burning,” just to name a random few.
I’ll grant you that many action-adventure movies tilt to the right. But most Hollywood movies are so smugly liberal that they infuriate even a dyed-in-the-wool liberal like me.
