Mattel Review Finds No Accounting Irregularities: The El Segundo-based toy giant said an independent review found no merit to a former employee’s allegations that the company used irregular accounting practices to inflate its earnings. The allegations were raised in a wrongful-termination suit filed by Michelle Greenwald, a former senior vice president for marketing. Mattel denied the allegations and hired Gary Lynch, a former top enforcement official with the Securities and Exchange Commission, to conduct an independent investigation. Mattel said Lynch, who conducted the probe with the aid of the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, determined the company’s accounting practices conformed with generally accepted accounting principles.
