MOORPARK — City Councilman Bernardo Perez said Tuesday he will run for mayor, joining four other potential candidates for the office.
Homemaker Charlene Catania, Councilman Patrick Hunter, rancher Pete Peters and former city Planning Commissioner Mike Wesner all visited City Hall on Monday to get paperwork needed to run for mayor. Perez said he will pick up the forms today.
Each potential candidate must collect 20 to 30 nomination signatures from voters registered in Moorpark to qualify for the November ballot. The forms must be returned to City Hall by Aug. 9, although the filing period may be extended until Aug. 14 if incumbents do not turn in their forms by the earlier deadline.
Perez, a water service representative for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, has served on the council since February 1988.
