A 78-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease wandered 10 miles from her Thousand Oaks home but was found unharmed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Agoura Hills, authorities said Wednesday.

Lou Dell Moore was reported missing from her house on Morro Circle by a family member about 3 p.m. Tuesday. A Sheriff’s Department helicopter was used in the search, which also involved 30 members of the Sheriff’s Disaster Assistance Response Team and volunteers, as well as neighbors of the missing woman, said Sgt. Rodney Mendoza.

Moore was located unharmed around 7:30 p.m. by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies near Canwood Street and Reyes Adobe Road in Agoura Hills and taken home by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies, Mendoza said.

“Friends and neighbors say she’s an avid walker,” Mendoza said. “She can just walk and walk forever.

“To go from where she lives to where she ended up, she had to walk up hills . . . it was a mix of terrains,” he said.
