Relatively cool temperatures and the even cooler B-2 Stealth bomber drew a record number of spectators to last weekend’s Van Nuys Airport Aviation Expo ‘96, which raised more than $50,000 for 20 local youth charities and nonprofit service groups.

The expo, with displays of more than 50 military, vintage and commercial aircraft and a rare flyover by the B-2 Stealth bomber, attracted about 300,000 spectators, airport officials said.

Admission for the event, in its 33rd year at Van Nuys Airport, was free, but money was raised through concession and souvenir sales.

Last year’s aviation expo raised more than $40,000 for local high school booster clubs, Rotary clubs, chambers of commerce and youth and service organizations, according to airport officials.

“We are proud to offer the community an outstanding aviation event while benefiting so many of our local nonprofit organizations,” said Ronald J. Kochevar, airport manager.
