Contract Awarded to Repave Walker Street
Walker Street, one of the city’s main thoroughfares, will get a face lift in the next few weeks.
The City Council this week approved a $264,000 contract that calls for the repaving of Walker from La Palma Avenue to Orangethorpe Avenue. Public Works Director Ismile H. Noorbaksh said construction will begin soon and be completed by Sept. 30.
The contract went to J.H. Rental Inc. of Orange, which submitted a bid that was 3% lower than the city engineer’s estimate for the job.
La Palma’s Civic Center, police headquarters and library branch all face Walker Street. The street is also the venue for most city celebrations and parades.
Noorbaksh said that during construction on Walker Street, at least one lane in each direction will remain open.
