Tim Hogarth, 30, of Van Nuys, who recently regained his amateur status, beat defending champion Chris Wollman of Parma, Ohio, 3 and 2, in the second round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Wailua, Hawaii.

Hogarth also knocked out John Zitkovic, 39, of Toledo, Ohio, 2 and 1, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Tatsuhiko Ichihara of Yokohama, Japan, shot a two-under 70 and holds a four-stroke lead at five-under 211 through 54 holes of the Junior World Championships golf tournament at the Torrey Pines South course in La Jolla. Adam Ainbinder of Huntington Beach and Servite High shot 78 and trails Ichihara in the 15-17 division by 11 strokes.

Jennifer Rosales of the Philippines leads the girls’ 15-17 division at seven-under 215 after three rounds on the north course. Carla Legaspi of San Clemente is 14-over after three rounds. The tournament concludes today.
