After a three-month search that drew nearly 30 applicants, the Hermosa Beach City School District has named a Huntington Beach administrator to the top job in the two-campus district.
Alan Rasmussen, assistant superintendent of personnel and educational services in the Huntington Beach City School District, has been appointed superintendent of the 900-student district. He replaces Gwen Gross, who left to become head of the Ojai Unified School District.
“For the last 5 1/2 years I’ve been preparing for a superintendent position,” Rasmussen said. “I work in a great district now, but being hired by Hermosa Beach is very exciting because I’m going to gain so much more. I’m very excited.”
During the past 24 years, Rasmussen, 49, has served as a teacher and principal of elementary and middle schools.
Rasmussen will assume his new duties on Aug 12.
In addition, El Segundo Middle School assistant principal Chris Jones has been hired as principal of Hermosa Valley School.
