2 Plane Wreckages Discovered
Authorities worked Friday to notify family members of passengers on two small planes that had been missing since they took off from San Jose and crashed in national forests in separate incidents.
Monterey County sheriff’s officials say wreckage found Thursday in a remote canyon of Los Padres National Forest was that of a Cessna 152 missing since last month. Along with the wreckage, officials found the decomposed bodies of James Pollock, 40, of Fremont and Geoffrey Wyant, 39, of Chelmsford, Mass.
The men had not been heard from since they radioed for permission to land in Half Moon Bay, 25 miles south of San Francisco, on June 16.
Also Thursday, U.S. Forest Service officials in Klamath National Forest found the wreckage of a small plane and the bodies of a 46-year-old San Jose man and his 2-year-old son about 10 miles south of the California-Oregon border. The single-engine Piper Comanche left San Jose on Wednesday, bound for Sisters, Ore.
