JETHAWK REPORT : Shane Will Be Coming Back

Share

While the absence of Mariner ace Randy Johnson threatened to hang a negative cloud over the JetHawks on Friday, there was some unexpected good news regarding outfielder Shane Monahan.

The first X-rays of Monahan’s right wrist showed there was an 80% probability that it was broken, and he probably would be out for the rest of the regular season.

But about 5 p.m. Friday, the longshot came in for Monahan and the JetHawks, when an examination showed that Monahan’s wrist was only sprained. He will be able to play when the pain is tolerable.

What was thought to be a break on the initial X-ray turned out to be just a flaw on the X-ray or some other “glitch,” trainer Rob Nodine said.

Upon hearing the news, Monahan immediately hopped into the cage and took batting practice.

“This is the best thing that’s happened all year,” said Monahan, who moments earlier was detailing his misery at having to sit and watch the rest of the season. “I had been taking playing for granted. Now I have a second chance, and I’m going to take advantage of it.

“This is a huge relief for me that my season’s not done. It’s like a new season for me.”
