A funeral Mass for slain Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Peter John Aguirre Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura, 10800 Henderson Road.

The 800-seat church is expected to be filled as relatives, friends and officers from around the state pay their respects to the 26-year-old Santa Paula native who was shot Wednesday in Meiners Oaks while responding to a domestic dispute. A sound system will enable those outside the church to hear the service, a county sheriff’s spokesman said.

The service is expected to end between 11:45 a.m. and noon when Aguirre’s coffin will be taken to Santa Paula Cemetery.
