City Finances Report Garners Top Award
While the City Council was hiring an outside auditor to review its finances, city officials were receiving a top award for financial reporting.
Thousand Oaks has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Assn. of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report.
The award is the highest form of recognition in the field of governmental accounting. The report was judged by an impartial panel from the nonprofit organization serving 12,625 government finance officials.
Finance Director Bob Biery also received an individual Award of Financial Reporting Achievement. He was the person primarily responsible for preparing the finance report.
“In effect, all [the award] is saying is that we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing,” Biery said. “We’re just doing our job.” The award will be the topic of a special presentation at today’s City Council meeting.
