Council to Consider 7 Housing Projects

Seven development companies are expected to be awarded housing allocations in Camarillo after a public hearing scheduled tonight at City Hall.

Although the city’s General Plan allows up to 400 new housing units this year, home builders have applied for just 364, planning officials said.

This is the first year that developers have not applied for more housing allocations than are available, senior planner Robert W. Burrow said.

The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight to consider recommended rankings of the seven proposed projects, each of which has been prioritized by staff planners.

But each of the projects is expected to win the housing allocations because they do not exceed the 400-units-per-year limit, Burrow said.

The top-rated project is proposed by Village Properties, which has applied to build 43 townhouses on property the company owns off Lewis Road.

Pardee Construction of Los Angeles has asked to build the most homes, 272 houses on three properties. Village Properties also plans to build 40 houses on land the company owns near the proposed townhouses.

The City Council in 1982 adopted a set of strict guidelines to ensure that a variety and balance of housing is constructed.
