Saloon Benefit to Aid Kin of Slain Officer
A local Western-style dance hall and saloon is staging a benefit Thursday to raise money for the family of slain CHP Officer Don Burt, the 25-year-old rookie who left behind a young wife who is seven months pregnant.
A silent auction of Southern California sports memorabilia and a prime rib dinner special are among the Thursday night features at the In Cahoots Dance Hall & Saloon that will benefit the Don Burt Memorial Fund, manager Mark Fichtner said.
A portion of all drink and food sales--which include a $4.95 prime rib dinner--will go to the memorial fund, and the saloon is requesting $5 donations at the door for admission. Also, autographed sports jerseys and other gear from the California Angels, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the Los Angeles Clippers and other area teams will be auctioned off.
Burt, 25, was shot seven times July 13 after a routine traffic stop in Fullerton.
The In Cahoots benefit will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at the dance hall at 1401 S. Lemon St., between Orangethorpe Avenue and the Riverside Freeway. The event is for patrons 21 and over. For more information, call (714) 441-1666.
