Builders Submit New Plans for Mini-Mall Construction

A Miracle Mile mini-mall, where construction was halted this spring because the project violated many city regulations, will be scaled back to about 60% of the original proposed size, officials said Tuesday.

Developers have submitted new plans for the commercial structure at the corner of Beverly Boulevard and Detroit Street that meet all codes, said Art Devine, executive officer of the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department. Work on the building was stopped in May because it encroached on a residential zone, was much larger than the approved plans provided, failed to take into consideration historic preservation and lacked an “appropriate methane barrier.”

Devine said he was unsure of the details of the new plans, because they are still being checked. “They’ve redesigned it so none of the portions of the building are going to be in the wrong zone,” he said. “It’s going to comply with the law.”
