Farm Worker Course Addresses Abuse

The Farmworker Women’s Leadership Project this weekend will hold its fourth annual training conference on preventing and coping with domestic violence and sexual assault.
The three-day conference, which starts today, will be held in Santa Barbara and Oxnard.
“Farm worker women have domestic violence problems and there is not that much support in their areas,” said Mily Trevino-Sauceda, project director. “They want to bring in services to their communities and train themselves so they can empower themselves and other women.”
The conference will include a dinner at All Saints Episcopal Church in Oxnard on Friday.
Seminars and speakers will address how poverty and cultural issues affect the way some farm worker women deal with domestic violence.
