Schools to Upgrade Information Access
High school district officials have picked a Camarillo-based installer of telecommunications systems to hook classrooms up to the Internet and provide intercoms at a cost of about $447,250.
Oxnard trustees Wednesday hired PacifiCom Inc. to install wiring in classrooms at five district high schools--Oxnard High, Camarillo High, Channel Islands High, Hueneme High and Rio Mesa High.
The district will pay for the wiring with state grant funds for technology improvements that were received earlier this year.
Supt. Bill Studt said most classrooms at the five schools lack access to certain technologies because of inadequate wiring. The wiring project will allow students “to access information from the media centers--libraries--from the classroom,” Studt said. “Students will also be able to get on the Internet.”
Camarillo, Hueneme and Channel Islands high schools will also be provided with intercom systems, setting up communications links between classrooms and their administrative offices.
PacifiCom, one of two interested vendors, submitted the lower bid on the project.
