Woman Cited Again in Child-Care Case

Share

Seven months after her child-care license was revoked for numerous violations, including leaving infants alone without supervision, a Granada Hills woman was accused of continuing to operate a day-care facility, Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn announced this week.

Bernadette Levstik, 49, faces three counts of operating an unlicensed day-care facility. Until late last year, Levstik ran a day-care center in Chatsworth that attracted the attention of the state Department of Social Services.

Investigators from the department’s Community Care Licensing division said the facility suffered from chronic overcapacity and did not provide required proof that its employees were trained in pediatric CPR and first aid. Nor did the facility, investigators said, provide proof that employees had undergone tests for tuberculosis and criminal-record checks.

After Levstik’s license was revoked Dec. 20, she relocated her business in Granada Hills, said Deputy City Atty. Don Kass.

Despite orders by state investigators to close the business on three separate visits, Levstik continued to operate, Kass added.

Levstik faces a maximum of three years in jail and up to $3,000 in fines. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court on Aug. 14.
