Going for the Gold

Olympic spirit is everywhere, and you too can show your winning style--be it gold, silver or bronze--with home furnishings.

The two-light Table Torchiere, with its rustic finish and antiqued paper shades, is reminiscent of Olympic flames past.

A gold-painted hardwood chest ($289) with hand-painted ivory accents is just the place to hold keepsakes and life’s little necessities.

The torch ($120 each, two for $230) is 23 3/4 inches high. The chest is 27 1/4 inches high, 19 inches wide and 11 1/2 inches deep.

Both are available through the Ross-Simons catalog: (800) 348-4414.

Seeking the Silver

The commercial-style ironing board by Hold Everything upholds the silver standard.

The pressing surface is wider than most, and the chromed steel board is easy to use and designed for stability. For further convenience, an iron rest and bottom shelf have been added.

The board ($139), 49 inches by 18 inches, adjusts to 37 inches high and folds for storage. The padded cotton cover is included.

Bathed in Bronze

The warm coppery glow of bronze shimmers through in bed linens from Scandia Down.

From the natural goose-down comforters to all cotton sheets and pillow cases, the prints of the Montague, Cairo, Arabesque and Verona lines are comfortable and classic in a simple, Old World way.

The pared-down environment is also echoed in Scandia Down’s newly remodeled stores at South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, and Beverly Hills. The stores’ decor “speaks of texture, color and a refined atmosphere that the linens can play off of,” says Nancy Koltes, president of Scandia Down shops.

The Beverly Hills store has also added a decorating consultant to the staff.

Irene Rodriguez, who has been with Scandia Downs for six years, goes to the customer’s home, free of charge, to assist with choosing linens from the store.

“I can make calls on the weekends too,” Rodriguez says. “We take things into the room, so you know exactly how it will look.”

The service is not just for celebrities, Rodriguez says, adding that it’s perfect for mothers with small (hard to transport) children and those who hate to shop.

Rodriguez, who is based at the Beverly Hills store, will make house calls in Los Angeles and Orange counties. For an appointment, call (310) 274-6925.
