Great Western Financial to Repurchase Shares

Great Western Financial Corp. said its board of directors authorized the repurchase of up to 7.5 million shares over the next 12 months.

The savings and loan said it would buy the stock in the open market or private transactions.

Companies typically buy back their stock in hopes of shrinking the number of shares held by the public and driving up the price.
