The Don Owen Water Science and Policy Fellowship has been established at UCI in honor of Langdon “Don” Owen, a water management engineer in the university’s School of Social Ecology.
The $130,000 fellowship, funded by individual and corporate donations in Owen’s honor, will be used to attract top-level masters and doctorate students to the school’s environmental analysis and design department, officials said.
For more than 30 years, the Newport Beach resident has served the community on the Orange County Water Districts and the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority, and as a consultant to the cities of Placentia and Irvine.
Officials said the fellowship is in recognition of Owen’s contributions to state and county water management issues.
