ARKANSAS : Whitewater Jury Says It’s Deadlocked

A grim-looking federal jury told a judge in Little Rock, Ark., it was deadlocked in the Whitewater trial of two Arkansas bankers accused of illegally using their bank to promote Bill Clinton’s political career. U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright ordered them to keep deliberating in the federal trial of Herby Branscum Jr. and Robert M. Hill. Branscum and Hill are charged with misapplication of bank funds and conspiring to use money from their Perry County Bank to pay for political contributions to Clinton and others. They also are accused of concealing from the Internal Revenue Service $52,500 in withdrawals by Clinton’s 1990 gubernatorial campaign.
