Councilman Ron Bates Seeking Reelection

Share

Councilman Ron Bates, who was first elected in 1988, announced this week that he will run for a third term in the November election.

Bates, 50, obtained nomination papers from the city clerk’s office and intends to file by the Aug. 9 deadline.

“One of my goals is to try to bring financial stability to local governments,” Bates said Wednesday. “The state is taking so many millions of dollars away from cities. We need to come up with a plan on what cities can do to survive.”

Bates, a financial consultant, said he also wants to participate in revising the city’s General Plan. He hopes to make changes in the city’s blueprint that would allow Los Alamitos to be more business-friendly.

Bates, who has lived in the city since 1976, is active in regional politics. He is the first vice president of the League of California Cities and a member of the Southern California Assn. of Governments’ transportation committee.
