CooperVision to Double Plant’s Capacity

IRVINE — Citing growing demand for its products, contact lens maker CooperVision Inc. said Thursday that it will double the capacity of its lens plant in Scottsville, N.Y.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for October, with the new facility to open in the first quarter of 1997.
The company declined to disclose the cost of the project.
CooperVision, an Irvine-based subsidiary of Cooper Companies, expanded the Scottsville facility a year ago, nearly doubling its capacity then. the facility now employs 200 and should add 50 more when the new expansion is completed.
CooperVision, with 50 employees in Irvine, also has 150 workers at a manufacturing plant in Huntington Beach and has factories in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, as well.
Cooper Companies Inc. is based in Pleasanton, Calif.
