SBA Adding to Staff: The Los Angeles district office of the Small Business Administration will hire 12 more staff members. A staff of 43 “will enable us to really meet the challenge of providing access to capital to a greater number of businesses . . . particularly in communities that haven’t been represented in the past,” district Director Alberto G. Alvarado said. “We hope to do a lot more lending to African Americans, Hispanics and to women, as well as to address some of the concerns of the Asian communities.” The office lent more than $400 million to local small businesses last year.
