Charity Festival Plans for 20,000 Over 3 Days
The group that organizes the Backlot Run at Universal Studios and the Sherman Oaks Springfest will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a festival this weekend at North Hollywood Park.
The San Fernando Valley Charitable Foundation, which grants money to numerous Valley charities, expects a crowd of 20,000 during its three-day Starscene Festival. Musicians, magicians, Frisbee-catching dogs, zoo animals and booths with food and crafts are planned.
“It’s your traditional family festival, a nice escape,” said Nancy L. Schmidt, the foundation’s vice president and manager.
Using funds raised solely through Starscene, Springfest and the Backlot Run, the foundation issues grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 to various types of charities, Schmidt said.
Admission is free, as is parking. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
