KTLA Channel 5 News Director Craig Hume announced Tuesday that he is resigning due to “philosophical differences” with the station’s management.

Hume, 42, said he will remain in his position until Aug. 31. Station executives said a replacement for Hume has not yet been chosen.

Both Hume and KTLA spokespersons said Hume’s departure was by “mutual agreement.”

“There have been philosophical differences between me and the management over the direction of Channel 5’s ‘News at 10’ and “The KTLA Morning News,’ ” Hume said Tuesday. “We have been having strategic discussions for several weeks, and we agreed to not agree on a couple of points. We then decided to handle this in a gentlemanly way and agreed to part company.”

Hume said he had not yet determined his plans: “I loved and was devoted to KTLA and I had no interest in changing jobs,” he said.

Neither Station Manager John Reardon nor General Manager Greg Nathanson could be reached for comment.

Hume joined KTLA in May 1993 as director of news operations. He was appointed acting news director in May 1994 following the resignation of then-News Director Warren Cereghino and was named news director in April 1995 following an 11-month national search.
