Pierce College to Open Satellite Campus

To accommodate the growing number of people who work or live in the area west of the San Fernando Valley, Pierce College will begin offering courses in Agoura Hills in September, Pierce officials announced Friday.

Pierce College President E. Bing Inocencio said the college is responding to requests from the community for courses in their area.

“We had an invitation to consider the idea and save them some time from going through the [Ventura Freeway] for classes,” he said.

The new satellite campus will be housed on the campus of Agoura High School, 28545 W. Driver Ave.

The courses will begin Sept. 10 and will include introductory courses in political science, English composition and general psychology, as well as courses in cultural anthropology, small business management and art appreciation.

Inocencio said the classes are frequently requested by new students.

“These are the ones [the community] wants,” he said.

“I guess it mirrors the needs of the people who live there.”

The courses will be held in the evening, and each course will meet one day per week for approximately three hours. Enrollment fees are $13 per unit for all California residents. The six courses are three units each.

The majority of the courses are transferable to both the California State University and University of California systems. The business management course is transferable only to the CSU system.

In addition, the college also will offer several of its PACE courses--a selection of classes offered to working adults who want an accelerated route to transfer to a four-year university--at the satellite campus beginning Monday.

Students may register at the site on the first day of class.
