School District’s Changes Ill-Planned

Share

September is just around the corner, and this means back to school.

What can we expect? A much publicized opening of Simi Valley’s Magnet High School, equipped with the tools and technology for student success. Shiny and new, the best of everything.

What we will also see is the deplorable condition students will be subjected to at Simi Valley High and Royal High. Overcrowded classrooms, insufficient lunch and restroom space. Parking and driving will be a nightmare.

It is sad that this district and board have utilized millions of dollars to restructure our district. These dollars would be welcomed right now for full participation in SB1777, Gov. Pete Wilson’s plan to reduce elementary-school class sizes.

The plan to restructure was done in haste. Reality was overlooked for a fantasy vision. This plan is irresponsible. Student safety and well-being were not considered. The community’s concerns and questions were ignored.

My question is, who is willing to be held accountable for it?
