Greek Premier Vows to Support Cypriots

Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis pledged total support to the Cypriot government and called for peace on the divided island, but he warned Turkey that any military advance would lead to war. Simitis made a one-day visit to Cyprus to hold top-level talks after the killings of two Greek Cypriots last week in protests in the U.N.-patrolled buffer zone against Turkey’s 22-year occupation of the island’s northern areas.
