Course Helps Translate Bilingual Skills Into a Job
A program on interpreting and translating languages is being offered this fall by Cal State Northridge for those who want to adapt their bilingual skills to business, medicine or law.
Two of the four classes needed for certification will be televised to a site in Newbury Park, while the other courses will be offered on the Northridge campus as part of the extension program.
“The Role of the Interpreter,” which will be offered Thursdays from 7 to 9:50 p.m. beginning Sept. 19, teaches how to turn bilingual skills into a successful interpreting career. The course, which costs $225, will be broadcast to the Cate Center at 180 Academy Drive in Newbury Park.
Also scheduled to be broadcast to the center is “Introduction to the Legal System,” which will be taught on two successive Saturdays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $125 for the course, which gives students an overview of the civil and criminal court systems.
“Vocabulary Building for Spanish-English Interpreting” will be taught Thursdays from 7 to 9:50 p.m. beginning Sept. 19. It helps students develop skills in research, dictionary use and glossary building.
The fee for that course is $225.
